Bret D. Hunter
Senior Director, Processing Operations“We have benefited for a long time from PLP’s operator training manuals. Because of the quality of those and the reasonable price, we decided to have PLP provide an operator training class for one of our facilities.
We worked with PLP to decide which modules would be most beneficial and were also able to incorporate actual plant equipment and screen shots. The training was very informative and generated some good discussion among the operations team and support engineers. We have even taken some of the lessons learned and pursued some operational improvements.
I would recommend PLP to other companies looking for similar training services.”

Manager Operations ServicesBack in 2017 my company tasked me with identifying an outside source for process operational training to improve the effectiveness, awareness and safety of our gas plant operating personnel. We wanted the option to have on-site training at our facilities. With the dozens of gas plants, it would not have been practical to bring our personnel to a training company’s facility. Among the companies contacted was Petroleum Learning Programs. PLP was recommended to me by an upper level manager who had taken the PLP course several years earlier.
Meeting with a PLP representative, their program and the instructional strategy that they recommend to their clients was explained. Using a combination of PLP training manuals and the onsite training we wanted, PLP proposed a program that covered the specific processes active at each facility and a session on basic oilfield knowledge. I realized later how right they were to recommend the basic knowledge section.
We made the decision to have PLP conduct a training session at a West Texas facility before expanding the program. I attended the first entire four day class, and then several others as we moved to new locations. All of the sessions that I witnessed went well. What I liked most was the effort the PLP instructor makes to engage those in attendance. He questions and engages everyone in the room and makes sure that each is given the opportunity to discuss scenarios and topics related to their facilities.
To date Targa has had PLP conducted multiple training programs at facilities in Texas, NM, Ok, Louisiana and most recently in North Dakota.
The PLP training manuals have been found to be a good review resources of the material covered in the class. Operators have been observed studying the manuals while working their shift to understand a process. We attempt to maintain a set of manuals in the control room as well as providing them to the operators.
Feedback from plant supervisors where the PLP training program has been completed has been consistently positive. Operators, having attended the class, have said that it would have been extremely helpful had they gone through the class years earlier when that started working in the oil and gas industry.
I highly recommend Petroleum Learning Programs for on-site Process Operations instructional training and the use of the PLP training manuals.

“The entire process of the training was great, wish it was longer, but overall, I’m more than informed.”
“I know a little more about all the equipment and knowledge needed to help run a cryo facility. It was a lot more than I knew and glad I was able to attend and get some more information.”
“Basics – all things require a strong base. I was able to further my knowledge or get new perspective on the topics I’m currently learning at the plant.”
