E-2 Piston Type Compressors
E-2 Piston Type Compressors
PISTON TYPE COMPRESSORS (60 pages with 53 photographs, drawings, and illustrations) This manual describes rotating positive displacement compressors and provides procedures for operating and control of the equipment. Both Metric and English units of measurement are used so the student can work in units with which he is familiar.
Covered Subjects:
- Description of piston type (reciprocating) compressors and their internal components
- The lubrication and cooling system
- Gas flow in typical 1 and 2 stage compressor units
- Effect on gas volume of changing the pressure and temperature
- The compressor cycle, cylinder efficiency and cylinder clearance
- Graphs to determine compressor capacity at various cylinder diameters, strokes, and speeds
- Compression ratio and its relation to power and temperature rise
- Lube oil requirements based on piston diameter, speed and stroke
- Rod load
- Methods of capacity control; unit speed, clearance pockets, recycle, and cylinder unloading
- Procedures for start-up, shutdown, and troubleshooting
Questions and problems are included throughout the text with answers in the back that allow students to check their understanding of the subject.
Estimated self-study time: 10 hours
The E-2 Knowledge Validation Test provides the answers to both USCS and SI unit validation test questions in the manuals for self-grading or for supervisor to grade test of employees. Also included scoring information. Test answers in pdf format will be emailed.
